About Kacy
KACY BENSON was born in Springhill, Louisiana, in 1970. At just 5 years old, his alcoholic father walked out on the family, leaving them to fend for themselves. In order to provide for Kacy and his younger brother, his mother moved them to Galveston, Texas, where she worked several jobs and often, out of necessity, left the boys with family or babysitters.
Over the years, and as a result of bitter childhood experiences, Kacy grew to become an angry, rebellious teenager. Reaching the point of exhaustion and having more than she could handle, his mother allowed him to locate his father and move to live with him in Louisiana. While there, Kacy was exposed to drinking and drugs on a level he had never experienced… right there in his home. Even though this time in his life could have sent him careening down a path toward a wasted life… a friend from school began inviting Kacy to church.
At first he resisted, wanting nothing to do with church or God. But, eventually Kacy gave in and became a regular with his friend in the youth group. Sometime later, while attending a Jay Strack event in Bossier City, Louisiana, Kacy surrendered his heart and his future to the Lord.
A few years later, Kacy made his way to back to his mother in Galveston. He still had massive hurt and anger inside, but began to realize he had a natural talent to make people laugh. He ran from God for a season and used his gift of humor to ease the pain… but God would not let him go. After being on his own for a short time, another great friend gave him an opportunity to serve in ministry at a summer camp. That event changed the course of his life, for good.
As part of the ministry God gave him, Kacy taught numerous classes, such as “Old and New Testament Survey” and “Christian Home and Family” at Hyde Park Baptist Schools in Austin. He served at the school for more than a decade beginning in 2000, and spent eight of those years as Head Coach of the Boy’s Varsity Basketball Program.
As time went by, Kacy realized that his humor and talents were gifts from God - and it became obvious that he should use them in ministry. After several years serving in local ministry in Austin, and twenty years in traveling ministry with that summer camp program, his phone began to ring with speaking requests. Now he speaks at ministry events throughout the country each year, and he's seen thousands of people come to Christ during his Gospel presentations.
In addition to speaking at events, Kacy is also the campus pastor of Bannockburn Church south, an established church in south Austin, Texas where he resides with his wife Vickie. They have two sons, Coleton who attends Texas State University and plays basketball, and Tyton who is finishing up his first year at the University of Arkansas.
